There's only four teams involved in football's top honours these days, so what's it like to win silverware every season? This is the blog of one football fan who decided to, fully and unconditionally, do the unthinkable and change the football team he supported to spend one season at the top... AND NOW HE'S DOING A SIMILAR THING FOR EURO 2008 WITH A MATE BECAUSE THE SEASON'S FINISHED AND THEY'RE BOTH BORED

The Big Bore

The Big Bore

I went for ‘a breath of fresh air’ at half time during the Bolton match on Saturday when Arsenal were 2-0 down.

So imagine my surprise and delight when I got back in. Told you I was having an effect on Arsenal’s fortunes. I’ve also elected to stay away from the Emirates for the Liverpool Trilogy - mainly to save the European Cup funds for the semis or final.

Great idea… that’s not tempting fate at all is it.

Last Friday was a big day for Big Four hating…

Found this in the Daily Star

“An incredible two-thirds of football fans questioned in a survey believe that following the sport is a complete waste of money and are considering switching to rugby instead. Eight out of 10 fans feel players’ wages are “offensive", while 67% are bored of the Big Four clubs dominating the Premier League.”

Then I went to the pub and chatted to a bloke who’s also sick of it all, and is vowing to “try out rugby instead". Small wonder, perhaps – he’s a Newcastle fan. The cost and The Big Four were his main reasons though.

So, I’m not the only one then. Anyone else? Please comment on what you’ve had enough of.

Score prediction: Pleeeaaassee don’t screw this one up. Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool

Oy oy!

Although the writer of The Silly Season is one my closest friends he is also a (for the time being) a fan of the Arse.

So, in the words of Alan Partridge "Let battle commence!"

Arsenal 0 Liverpool 2 (Torres, Torres)

Bring it on

The Silly Season: I've never heard of this man. Buss… Sounds like a fake name to me.

Only joking - hello mate.

I would say that I'm sick of it, blah blah blah. But to be honest I don't think I am. I love football. Yes, the monopoly on the big four is annoying, but Everton are coming closer to breaking them this season and there's only one Premiership team left in the FA Cup - and they're not one of the big four. However much they dominate, they're not invincible, and that's what makes it exciting. Beating Man U and Liverpool at home this season have been nearly the best two games.

I'm just glad I support a team where we're pleased with a win, even if we expect it. Seriously, we have Derby at home soon, and whilst I don't think we should lose (oh please God), it's not like West Ham don't have the ability to throw it all away. I don't expect to win anything, usually. And that, I think, is the killer.

Mind, I only pay £360 for my season ticket, so I don't really have the right to complain about not getting your money's worth. I think it's around £18 per game for me, which is much better than some.

The Silly Season: Hmm, that's a pretty good price. I'd be happy paying £18 a game.

You're right, this season has actually proved that you can still have crazy cup competitions and shocks in the league. It's just that the gulf between the massive clubs and the smaller ones is so much bigger now that these things become vary rare. Too rare.

You're right to have faith though - I have to be careful I don't fall into the 'It Was Better In My Day' thing.
